I first got SpyHunter when I clicked on something by mistake and got a nasty pop up. I searched the name of it on the internet and although, I found manual removal recipies that were impractical to implement, I found only SpyHunter available to get it off. So, I bought and downloaded it and it removed the nasty stuff with no problem. At the time I had Norton, AV and SpySweeper on my computer. So, I did not renew SpySweeper and have renewed SpyHunter ever since. I always wondered if SpyHunter planted the virus on the internet. What I don't like about SpyHunter is that they charge you $29.99 every six months to keep an updated version. SpySweeper didn't do that. But then SpySweeper (and NAV) was worthless when I needed it.

A neighbor had a particularly bad virus infection. The only program that was able to remove it was Spyhunter. The program found an additional 400+ infections--mostly adware. So I ran it on my computer. Although Microsoft Essentials, Malwarebytes, and Avir didn't find any malicious software, Spyhunter found 538, again mostly adware. Is the program that much better, or is this a scam to get me to buy the $40 upgrade to remove the adware?

I give the software a high rating. The software itself when it is kept updated with definitions and the software itself updated, works very well. I have a problem with the software developer, Enigma, whose customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I had originally purchased SpyHunter using an email address and my name. Years later I got married and my email and last name changed so I purchased a new account for SpyHunter. I let the old account run out. The old account and the new account somehow got mixed up with Enigma and I was getting two reminders to renew under both names. When I chose to renew the one with my new name and email address I found I could not activate the program under those. I had to use the old one. Then, the definitions and program updates would not work. I tried to fill out a repair ticket on Enigma's customer service page, but found I was locked out of that as well. I ended up having to write to reg.net, the place where I paid for the software and they helped me to contact Enigma. Instead of wanting to help fix the problem or refund my money, I ended up talking with a person who could care less about the problems I was having. I also think they are charging way too much, $39.95 every six months to renew this software. That's eighty dollars a year! There are other softwares out there that do the same or better for a lot less and you get "real" customer service when you need it.

Zapped by AV Security Scam. Could not use IE or open any applications without errors. Used firefox to download SpyHunter4. Worked quickly and resolved my problem. I have used free AVG and it did not catch this. Only one problem, SpyHunter4 crashed when disabling unknowns. Support is working on.
