Acronis True Image Home 2011 has all the features I want and the price is right. When it works it works well. The new interface is a bit confusing but it can be learned.
Unfortunately, this version and Windows 7 do not always get along. I have run into several problems. The latest is that after paying for and using this version for six months it suddenly stopped working, claiming my trial evaluation period had expired. The “Help About” screen had my serial number and said I had 196 days left before having to renew.
Tech Support is generally slow to reply, in one case taking weeks to reply with a lame apology for not writing sooner. With the trial problem they replied within two days. They gave me a very nice explanation of how trial software works and how I could download it again to continue my trial. They completely missed the fact that this product was paid for.
And that is the biggest problem. Their support is from somewhere overseas, they do not seem to comprehend what they are told, and they send links and canned replies rather than taking the time to understand the problem.
I would have to say that when it works Acronis is everything I want. It has the Acronis Zone, from which I can recover the entire C drive. It can recover from images files on a network, a hard drive, a thumb drive, etc. It can do full, incremental, and continual backups. It can keep multiple versions of files.
It is unfortunate that it does not seem to work reliably on my Windows 7 64 bit system. The competition has many of the same features but not as well organized and not all in one product. This is a big disappointment.
